A Copywriter's Rant - Marketing, Sophistication and Complexity - (Money Making Tips A-Plenty)

"Things should be as simple as possible, not simpler."
Albert Einstein.
In my work as a marketing consultant and copywriter, I see that the drive for simplicity is everywhere. Unfortunately the drive more often than not is far simpler than possible. Information and advice being handed out that makes it sound like if you pay someone for your social media campaigns you'll be on your way to unlimited cheap leads.
The same is true, be it a website or any other single piece of marketing media.
Social media being used for lead generation can work - but you need to be able to convert those leads into customers otherwise it is all activity and no accomplishment.
Conversion can either be done via manual labour or it can be done by a system. The system is the machine that means you don't have to do the hard work each week in order to get the results. The machine does it for you.
The more opportunities your machine capitalises on the more effective it is. The more money it returns for every dollar invested in the machine.
The perfect machine takes a dollar and gives you two or more back. It happens all the time for smart marketers.
But if it only exists on paper... It won't make you money.
The next great challenge around marketing is implementation. I've seen clients take months to get a 3 step mailing sequence finished and in the mail - after I wrote the copy for them. They already had the list. All they had to do was print and stuff letters into envelopes.
I've had another client get one and a half steps out of a 'three step mailing' in the post over 6 weeks when in 4 weeks all 3 steps should have gone out.
Implementation matters. Be willing to invest to make it happen.
The good thing about all of this is your competitors are struggling too. Implementation and building marketing machines is the endeavours of the 1% of business owners. And it is a genuine source of wealth. It is easy to knock off your competitor's quarter page ad and they can knock off yours. It is much harder for your competitor to knock off your multi-step, multi-media client conversion system.
