Effective Direct Mail Tips!

The purpose of direct-mail is to generate quality leads. Here are some proven tips to help you write that killer direct-mail letter.
Pitch the right contact. I know this sounds obvious but it's a common mistake. If your direct-mail is intended for HR there's no point mailing the sales department!
Cut straight to the chase. Don't waste your prospect's valuable time with waffle! Get to the point. Your reader will appreciate this.
Explain the benefits and not the features. I know you have the greatest product to offer. It's taken you years of hard graft to perfect its every nuance. You're rightly proud of your wonderful product. I understand. Now you simply want to tell everyone about its features.
Stop right there!
Your prospect is interested in one thing. Let's get this straight. They want to know what's in it for them if they buy your lovely product. How will it make their life easier? How will it improve on the last piece of kit they foolishly purchased? That's right. They want the benefits spread out before them. Communicate your product's benefits effectively and the sales will follow! A great copywriter will do this for you.
Make them an offer.
I think we should sweeten this deal! Go ahead and offer your prospect something for nothing. Free is a powerful word. What can you offer? Offer them free newsletters, insider tips or perhaps even a trial product. Case studies have shown that a prospect is more likely to contact a company if special offers are made available. Special offers work a treat! A prospect will feel more encouraged to sign up to your newsletters if you give them a little treat! Going forward, this will help you build a healthy marketing list too. We all know how invaluable a quality marketing list is!
Include a postscript (P.S)
Postscript's work. The majority of prospects will read your P.S before they read the complete mail-shot! Use this opportunity to build rapport with your reader and clearly explain the benefits of your offer.
Call to action!
Tell them! Grab them by the lapels and ask them to contact you. Prospect's need a little push to get them over the line. Don't be shy. Be direct. Take control. Your sales figures will look great! Don't be afraid to ask for their business.
Include return postage.
A simple tip. Always include return postage when sending out direct-mail. Your response rate will be much higher!
